Richard John Preston, 53, appeared in Griffith Local Court on Wednesday before magistrate Katherine Thompson. He made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
Mr Thompson is facing charges of possessing an unregistered prohibited firearm, not keeping a firearm safely and possessing ammunition without authority after an incident on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to a property at Merungle Hill after neighbours reported hearing shots being fired.
Police said there had been an argument, which allegedly resulted in a .410 gauge shotgun being pointed at the ground and discharged, leading to the arrest of Mr Preston. He will reappear in the court on Friday.
