The Women in Policing Development Day focuses on building the career and development of women in the force and encourages them to always put their best foot forward, seek opportunities and set career goals.
The day is an initiative of the Southern Region Command, which the Griffith Local Area Command is part of, and the development day will continue to be presented throughout all local area commands in the region.
About 20 officers from Griffith and surrounds took part in the development day, which included training, special guest speakers, mentoring and initiative programs to support officers in their job.
Guest inspirational speaker on the day was Leeton business woman Tracey Morris, who was identified as a local inspiration for her overall achievements as a wife, mother, councilor and business woman.
Mrs Morris’ speech focused on setting personal goals and personal achievements as well as overcoming challenges both within your career and personal life.
The two officers presenting the development day were Sargent Kristen Ryan from the Southern Region office and Inspector Angela Burnell from the Far South Coast, who is also the southern Region sponsor.
The two officers will continue to present the development day across all commands in the region.
“This is a support initiative to promote the corporate objectives of women in policing both sworn and unsworn, the workshops encourage female officers to be the best they can be in the job they are doing or aspiring to do,” Inspector Burnell said.
“The day provided a range of presentations with accompanying mentoring seeking opportunities and putting your best foot forward within the organisation.”
“As the South Region women in policing sponsor, I am proud to be involved in the day, meeting the women that police this community and share in their career journeys and being part of their careers.”
Griffith Local Area Command Inspector Kim Traynor said the day was important to support female staff in the organisation in goal setting, self confidence and self development.
“It is important the NSW Police Force continue to develop the careers of female staff through encouraging different career paths or seeking promotion and opportunities within the organisation,” Inspector Traynor said.
“This day was great to highlight to the staff that were in attendance the opportunities and strategies for development.”
