For the second week in a row, Jamie Winkler has played a starring role for his side. Last week it was a century against Yenda, this week it was a 4-14 off six overs with the ball.
Brother Justin also a handful with 3-28.
Exies captain, Phil Burge was understandably pleased with the performance from the brothers.
“Jamie and Justin really put on a good show.” he said.
“They really did all of the damage for us.”
Hanwood got off to a strong start as Brad Hornery (19) and Dean Catanzariti (13) moved the team to 41 before Hornery was run out by Michael Shepherd.
That was where the wheels turned and the Winkler show started with the next seven wickets being picked up by the brothers as Hanwood only managed to score 50 runs.
The only real resistance mounted by Hanwood came from Brendan Hicken (20) and Charlie Cunial (17) who were the only other batsman to make it into double figures with assistance from the 15 extras bowled by Exies.
Andrew Arnold (2-15) finished off the innings – picking up the final two wickets – to leave Hanwood with a total of 95 off their 33 overs.
Exies lost an early wicket in Justin Winkler (2) – who was unable to back up his effort with the ball – to leave his side at 1-14.
The ship was steadied by a partnership from Shepherd (29) and Burge (19) as they built towards the total before the captain fell to the bowling of Watts (2-19).
Two quick wickets to Michael Crosato (2-7) saw Exies stumble a little with Marc Tucker (1) getting caught out by Hicken while Shepherd was trapped LBW.
When Josh Davis (1) fell to the bowling of Watts it was left for Jamie Winkler (9*) and Craig Burge (8*) to get Exies across the line for a five-wicket win with six overs to spare.
Burge was quick to point out that it was the batting that almost let his side down.
“The batting from both sides was fairly average I felt,” he said.
“Some of this comes down to the bowling performances from both sides.
“The pitch was not bad at all. It was a bit grassy on top but felt really hard underneath.
“Despite the batting I thought we did quite well to get the win.”
The win continues Exies unbeaten start to the season with three wins from as many games while Hanwood find themselves still looking for their first win of the season with a washout being their best result.
