The annual NSW/ACT Joss State Zone Trials were held at the end of September in Albury.
Jamie Best and Angus Bartter represented Riverina in the under 13s whilst Blake Argus, Mitch Forbes and Luke Parmenter played in the under 14s Riverina side.
The under 13s notched up three wins from five games whilst the under 14s won four of its games.
However, winning isn’t the main goal of the carnival, learning comes first.
The talent program is a fantastic way for players to develop their football and gain experience from skilled coaches in a week-long camp team environment.
All players are required to stay three nights in provided accommodation where they are taken through a number of education sessions hosted by the experienced staff and coaches.
The most promising under 13s and 14s players linked to the Swans and Giants academies are broken into teams depending on their age group and location.
AFL NSW/ACT talent and coaching manager Darren Denneman said it is a great opportunity for players to have an insight on how the AFL NSW/ACT Joss Talent Program is run.
“For many it is their first chance to be involved in the AFL NSW/ACT Joss Talent Program, providing them elite experiences and a potential stepping stone toward an AFL career,” he said.
Jason Saddington GWS Giants academy manager was pleased with the talent on display.
“We have seen some talented players come through the carnival in past years who have fantastic AFL careers like Zac Williams, Harry Himmelberg, Jack Steele and Matt Kennedy,” he said.
“I think the quality of football has been terrific. I’m really looking forward to see this group of players come up through the program over the years, working hard and forging their way through the Giants Academy and hopefully making their way to AFL lists.”
