Kenny wanted to ramp things up a gear for the 2016 pairs event to gauge the competitors’ progress.
“We’ve got four events on the day and they are all made up of different exercises,” Kenny said.
“Anywhere from pull ups to Olympic lifting, to gymnastics to handstand push ups, running, rowing all that sort of stuff.
“We’ve got a more diverse range of movements this year than last year.
“If you're strong in one area and weak in another, you're going to be found out this year.
“It was just to see if they've [competitors] worked on any skills or weaknesses they've had through the year.”
Add to that, there is one component of the event that Kenny has kept as a secret to surprise the competitors on the day.
A combination of physical and mental strength is needed for CrossFit.
However, on the mental side of things, along with an ability to block out pain, some tactical nous is also required.
“They [athletes] get to see the workout released in the morning. They go and have a discussion and work out a game plan on how they want to attack it and go from there,” Kenny said.
“You've got to use your head.
“Someone might be better at a certain movement so you want them to be doing that movement.”
The throwdown’s heats have been completely filled with teams from Albury, Leeton, Wagga Wagga and Griffith all taking part in the event.
Spectators are welcome to come along and check it all out.
“We'll have a couple of stalls again this year with food and drink,” Kenny said.
“We want people to come down.
“It’s just like watching the footy or something like that – anyone can come down and watch them compete.”
The event runs from 9am in the morning until roughly 3pm.
Each workout will go for about 20 minutes and teams of two will compete in men’s, women’s and mixed categories at the event.
