Organiser Carmel La Rocca said out of a stream of positive feedback she received on the day it was a couple from Sydney who made her realise how unique and important the day was.
“They said they couldn’t believe the culture, and the way everyone interacted and that we needed to find a way of picking this up and taking it around the world,” she said.
However, despite its enormous potential there is a simple reason behind the success of the festival, now in its eighth year, according to Ms La Rocca.
“I think it is because festivals like this usually only target one community not the whole community,” she said.
“But I never think of it like that, this is just our community.
“So many times I get asked how do the communities of Griffith get on so well compared to other places and I think the answer is because they are a community as a whole.
“I don’t know what it is but it just works here and the festival has a really great positive impact on that as well.
Memorial Park was standing room only on Saturday as thousands turned up to enjoy foods, dances and displays that while originating in countries far away now called Griffith home.
“… The amount of people who came it was so much bigger than last year,” Mrs La Rocca said.
