GRIFFITH councillor Mike Neville told the mother of one of his alleged victims he was in a marriage of convenience before admitting he "still had sexual desires", a Sydney District Court trial has heard.
In a drama-charged week of evidence, the woman claimed in late 2008 or early 2009 the then-mayor called asking the whereabouts of her daughter, who he had charge over as a probation and parole officer.
"It got onto the subject of when I was next in Griffith maybe we could have a drink ..." the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said.
"I said 'aren't you married' and he said 'yes but we just live together in the same house' (and) he said 'you are an attractive woman' and (that) he still had sexual desires."
But in his first day of evidence on Wednesday, Neville told the 12-member jury a car accident in 1979 had left him with no sexual function and no libido.
"I have got no sensation, no movement, in my lower torso," he said.
His barrister Ray Hood then asked "as a result of that are you able to achieve an erect penis ... or have any sexual function at all?", to which Neville replied "no".
"As far as that matter is concerned do you have any sexual drive, libido?" Hood said.
"No, that is a legacy of the injury," Neville replied.
The accuser's mother earlier told the 12-member jury her daughter had felt "degraded and like a piece of filth" after emerging from Neville's Banna Avenue probation and parole office following a court case.
"She said that he made her take her clothes off and he touched her and it made her feel degraded and like a piece of filth," she said.
"We talked about going to the police and (name redacted) said she didn't think it would do any good because she wasn't in a very good position as far as anybody believing her because of this (court) case."
Crown prosecutor Adrian Robertson then asked the woman if Neville had called her discussing her daughter's fear of going to jail.
"Mr Neville said if she went to like, Mulawa, they would eat her for breakfast," she said.
Neville began giving his evidence before Judge Laura Wells on Wednesday - day 11 of the trial - and is expected to begin cross-examination today.
He is charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault and four of aggravated indecent assault on two women between 2003 and 2010.
