How long have you worked on this garden?
We have been working in this garden now for 12 years, just after we finished building our new home and moved in.
Our first project was the wisteria colonnade in front of our pond and designing the perimeter of the outside of the garden with garden beds, but there are always new projects and the projects are always ongoing.
What style of garden is it?
The garden is semi-formal with cottage-styled flower beds and expansive lawns to create an open oasis.
It is also a place to share stories. We have a number of features in the garden that are conversation pieces, like our original wrought iron gates that let the outside in.
What has inspired you?
I have always loved the outdoors and when I moved onto the farm, I wanted to create a green oasis that sometimes, when surrounded by the dry landscape, makes you feel good.
What do you get out of the garden?
I find gardening a good way to stay fit and healthy and happy, it gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction. It is also a place to have a bit of quiet time in our busy lives.
Seeing our garden growing and blossoming is worth all the hard work and time.
What’s your favourite part of the garden and why?
My favourite part of the garden changes throughout the seasons but there is always something to look at and enjoy. The wisteria colonnade in the spring and summer when flowering is lovely, as is the curved bridge over running water with the stone wall leading to what I call a lovers lane.
What do you enjoy most about the Festival of Gardens and why?
What we enjoy most about the festival is giving our family and friends a chance to come and enjoy the peace and tranquility of our garden. It is also a great chance to meet so many nice people.
At the same time it’s a great opportunity for Griffith to showcase what it has to offer with all the activities happening around the area during the festival.
