In a nail-biting finish, Jason Magoci and Col Vearing won the title after a seven hole playoff with Martin Sweeney and Gerry Cox.
Both pairs finished on 120 strokes off the stick after the 27 holes and the sudden death playoff saw them go up and down the 18th seven times before Magoci and Vearing snatched the win, parring the seventh extra hole to Sweeney and Cox’s bogie.
The handicap section was won by Chick Graham and Allan King 111 ¾ nett, David Kidd and Alf Franchi 113 ¾ nett runners-up. Tony De Marco & Robin Salvestro 114 ¼ nett, Geoff Cotterill & Wayne Tyndall 115 nett won vouchers.
Saturday’s event was a single stableford with 73 players. Jake Harrison 37 points won A grade, draining birdies on the 5th. and 17th. Runner-up Slim Cavanaugh also carded 37 points but lost the countback, nailing a birdie on the 17th. Aalf Franchi 41 points, best score of the day, won B Grade. He started his run with a birdie on the 9th and then added birdies on the 11th and 12th to score 23 points home. Brian Grandi with 38 points was runner-up, carding 21 points out and 17 home.
Steven Panazzolo 39 points won C Grade, carding a five point birdie on the fourth then added a four point par on the 12th. Steve Marland 38 points second, carding seven three pointers on the day. Pro Pins were won by Matt Staines and Barry Stapleton. Par Threes, 4th. Andrew idd, 7th. Martin Sweeney, 11th. Don Hillam,, 16th. Andrew Noad. Vouchers to 32 points.
Daylight saving is just around the corner and the new competition the Caltex 5’s sponsored by Rod McNabb Caltex will start on Monday October 10th. Teams of five, instead of seven, best four scores to count in a stroke format.
There will be two competitions, the first from October 10 to December 11 and presentation night on Saturday, December 17. The second round will commence on Monday, January 9 and finish on Sunday, March 12 with the presentation night on Saturday, March 18. Divisions will be in teams of 8 with a promotion relegation system for the Second Competition.
Registration forms along with all the other information, including a list of all the new innovations from the Pro Shop or online. The cancelled Family Fun Day will be held in November. The Club needs help of volunteers to do some small jobs around the club and course. Contact Jason or Wayne if you can help.
Last week’s veterans comp. was washed out as was Wednesdays. Veterans are reminded their tournament is only a few weeks away. Entry forms are available from the club or online. Could they be returned as soon as possible. Today’s, tomorrow’s, Sunday and Monday competitions are all stablefords. Saturday a single stroke. The all important Doms Motors Club Championships are due to begin on Saturday, October 8.
