The Griffith duo have been racing in the Topgun Racing Team which is owned by Troy Hunt from Sydney. Hunt himself is a national and world champion himself and has also raced with the likes of V8 Supercar drivers James Courtney and Mark Winterbottom which has provided the boys with a great environment to learn their race craft.
The series has taken the boys and their families right around Australia with races in Dubbo, Puckapunyal, Monarto, Ipswich and Port Melbourne.
It was a tough start to the season for Byron who suffered a huge crash that wrecked his kart while Jason was able to have a consistent weekend as he found his feet in the competition.
At the Puckapunyal event Byron had to come to grips with a completely new chassis and get his cart set up properly but with a great effort form both drivers, saw them finish in the middle of the pack of 30.
In Monarto it was a similar consistent showing from both boys as they continued to move up the standings.
Ipswich was a tough round for Jason as some bad luck saw him destroy two engines but with a very determined showing he was able to finish well. Byron had another strong race against the best of the best.
With one round to go both drivers have done their club proud and their family proud by sticking with the series even when things haven’t gone their way and look to finish the season strongly in Port Melbourne this weekend.
Riverina Cup Round 2
Griffith Kart Club held the second round of the Riverina Cup at the White Road Track with a great turnout of 31 karts.
There was some great racing starting with the Cadet 12 division with Noah Sands taking out first place, William Garner had a great day showing good speed to finish in third.
The KA3 Junior race was won by Tysen Enness even after having a few kart problems. In KA4 Junior Mikayla Boots drove the wheels off her kart to take the number one sport with Nicholas Puntoriero a close second.
The senior class kicked off with Jason Severino and Byron Woolner battling it out for the top sport with Severino coming out on top. It was a local affair for most of the KA3 heavy class with Jason Baily able to come out on top from that race.
The TAG 125 restricted light class races was taken out by James O’Callaghan in his new kart while Dean Demarco also had a good day finishing second. Another local battle took place in the TAG restircted heavy class between John Macey and Ben Boots with Macey able to hang on to second position.
