Newly crowned world champions Matthew Schiller and Laura Woolley will lead the charge at the shoot which will be run in conjunction with the 2016 Commonwealth Carnival.
Griffith’s very own national champion Glen Castellaro will be one of the town's top hopes against the young guns.
The challenge of taking on some of the world’s best is nothing new to Castellaro.
“I’ve shot against them all my life so it doesn’t worry me any more,” Castellaro said.
He said it was great to see the younger generation coming through.
“Yeah, there’s a lot of young guys and girls coming up who are shooting quite well at the moment,” Castellaro said. “Emma Cox is another one that comes to mind who competed at the nationals and beat most of the men.”
It will be Castellaro’s first Casella Shoot appearance in a number of years.
“I haven’t shot it for the last three four years, I’ve been here in the shop [Riverina Hunting and Fishing],” he said. “This year I’m going to get out and have a crack at it.”
The addition of the Commonwealth Carnival to the shoot means the tournament will run for three days instead of the usual two.
Seven separate events will be held over the weekend with spectators welcome to head out to the Griffith Gun Club from September 2-4.
Any spectators not sure which day to attend, tournament director Steve Carter said Friday night would be something special.
Flash targets – which explode in a cloud of coloured dust on impact – will be used during the night shoot.
The lack of natural light also present a challenge for the shooters.
“The night shoot will be just on darkness, around 6.30pm on Friday,” Cunial said. “It’s a different way of shooting, you’ve got no background to go off.” Cunial thanked Casella Family Brands for sponsoring the shoot. He said “it wouldn't happen without their support.”
