Earlier this year, Tony Abbott's former chief of staff joined Sky News as a paid political commentator, she will reportedly continue to work for the network and contribute weekly columns for News Corp's Sunday papers.

Ms Credlin told News Corp that in her new position she would use her policy skills in the development of new business opportunities for CPH.

"There's a lot of growth potential out of Australia's recent free-trade agreements with Japan, China and South Korea and work is well under way on agreements with the EU, India and others," she said.

"We're well placed in the Asia-Pacific region to capitalise on the continuing growth potential of our neighbourhood. As well, rapid technological advances and disruption mean industry can't stand still."

But she said she would stay away from lobbying in her new role and "other executives will continue to manage government relations and corporate affairs".

Through his CPH investment vehicle, Mr Packer owns 53 per cent of Crown Resorts. Ms Credlin will also report directly to CPH chief executive and Crown Resorts chairman Robert Rankin.

Ms Credlin worked as a Liberal staffer for former Liberal Senator Kay Patterson, the former Communications Minister Helen Coonan as well as former Liberal Leaders Brendan Nelson and Mr Turnbull, before becoming Mr Abbott's chief of staff in 2009.

She was a controversial figure in the Abbott government and continues to ruffle feathers as a political commentator.
