It was a bittersweet moment for Oberholzer after her side went down 3-2 in the women’s decider.
She was taken aback when her name was read out during the presentation following the grand final.
“A little bit, considering last year Mel Bonetti won overall and she played well again [this year],” Oberholzer said when asked if she was surprised about the win.
Oberholzer might not have expected it but the statistics don’t lie.
Oberholzer was a dynamo up front for Yoogali SC and netted 22 regular season goals and another four in the finals to bag the golden boot award as well.
That included three four-goal hauls and one hat-trick.
Oberholzer failed to score in just two matches she played for Yoogali SC.
She said she wouldn’t have been able to win the awards without her teammates who provided a good platform week in, week out.
“Winning the golden boot was good enough for me – I didn't expect it [best and fairest award]. I worked hard and I couldn't have done it without my team,” she said.
I worked hard and I couldn't have done it without my team.
