Officers from Griffith Highway Patrol stopped a Ford Falcon travelling south on the Newell Highway about 10.50am.
During a search of the car, officers allegedly located more than $200,000 cash in a cavity where the passenger airbag should have been.
The money was seized and will undergo forensic examinations.
The driver, a 64-year-old man, was arrested and charged with deal with property suspected proceeds of crime, and goods in custody.
He is due to appear at West Wyalong Local Court on August 25.
Griffith Highway Patrol chief, Sergeant Matt Carroll, said it was a good result.
“This is another demonstration of police using not only their training but also their experience,” he said.
“It shows police are able to detect illicit drugs, large sums of cash that will probably be used for the purchase of illegal drugs and weapons on major arterial highways throughout our region.”
Traffic and Highway Patrol commander, Assistant Commissioner John Hartley, said the CATCH program was working.
“The CATCH program targets vehicles suspected of transporting drugs and other illegal contraband,” he said.
"Since the inception of the program, over $110 million dollars worth of drugs, guns, cash, stolen goods, and other contraband has been taken off our roads.
“If you think you are going to get away with illegal activity on our roads, you can think again.”
