Griffith mayor and Centenary Celebrations Committee chairman John Dal Broi encouraged all residents to get involved and make the most of the festivities.
“There is so much going on over the birthday weekend, I recommend you plan ahead with family and friends and book advance where necessary to avoid missing out," Councillor Dal Broi said.
“The much-loved Tin Hare, the beautiful heritage train which once operated in this area, is returning thanks to the Lachlan Valley Railway.
“Jump onboard and enjoy a short shuttle ride to Yenda and Tharbogang – rides start from $15 for adults and just $10 for children.”
Cr Dal Broi encouraged residents to take advantage of the dinner train to Leeton on Thursday night which leaves Griffith at 6.30pm and returns at 8.40pm.
“While on board you will enjoy a delicious boxed dinner with catering by O’Donnells – what a wonderful way to spend an evening.”
A Sunday service is on offer with a trip from Griffith to Ardlethan where you will enjoy a leisurely lunch at the bowling club before returning to Griffith. Seats on the three carriage train are limited and can be booked at the Griffith Visitor Information Centre or online at www.lvr.com.au On Friday evening, the much anticipated unveiling of the centenary sculptures will take part at IOOF Park in Kookora Street.
The event will include lively music with Jeff and Dee, the unveiling of the sculptures, a barbecue with thanks to the Rotary Club of Griffith, delicious pulled-pork rolls and Peeches coffee will be available to purchase.
“We will end the evening with a bang when the sky is lit up by an awe-inspiring fireworks display,” Cr Dal Broi said. “You will not want to miss this.”
Several tours are on offer on Thursday, Friday and Sunday, with John Robinson acting as a tour guide. There are three bus tours available – a City Highlights Tour on Thursday which leaves from the theatre at 2pm after the official birthday celebrations and lunch, a tour of the Casella Family Brands site and Australian Beer Company on Friday, with lunch at Catania Fruit Salad Farm. On Sunday the tour heads south to the state-of-the-art Southern Cotton gin, followed by lunch at Rosewood garden on Stokes and a winery visit to McWilliam’s.
