“I suppose unique would be the word to describe our little procession,” paramedic and float organiser Dave Nolan said.
“We have a selection of historic and vintage ambulances that we are having brought over from Temora from 1916, 1969, 1971 and 1972.
“It’s been a few months in the making but we thought it would be pretty cool and something nice and different to do for our community.”
Mr Nolan has assured the city’s residents their team will not be racing out to any jobs in the borrowed vehicles which he says have given him a healthy appreciation for the benefits of modern technology.
“They are definitely all still drive-able and they’re on historic registration, but rest assured we won’t be doing any jobs in them,” he laughed.
Mr Nolan said the paramedics had also been spurred into action by the thought the ‘firies’ might be putting on a float for the parade however, he insists there is no competition between the two services.
Griffith Mayor and chairman of the centenary committee John Dal Broi said Griffith was pulling out all the stops for the centenary weekend.
Locals and visitors alike are expected to flock to Banna Avenue on Saturday, August 6 from 9am for the Steggles 2016 street parade and following street party.
“Organising for this event has been well under way for over a year,” Cr Dal Broi said.
Council is calling on interested members of the public to get involved by volunteering a couple of hours to help with the day.
“Events like this could simply not take place without the support and assistance from the community,” Cr Dal Broi said.
Volunteers will be required throughout the day to assist with a number of tasks including set up, waste collection, marshalling and pack up at the conclusion of the event.
“We appreciate most people wold like to be a part of the parade itself, but we have plenty of opportunities for you to volunteer even an hour of your time to assist with setting up, or even helping with the crowds during the parade which will put you in a great spot to watch the floats and marching groups go by,” Cr Dal Broi said.
“The Committee would appreciate any time you may be able to spare. This is going to be an incredible celebration of this great city and volunteering is a great way to get involved.”
