While political leaders trade blows in the final days of the campaign, their supporters were chatting pleasantly outside pre-polling centers like Griffith PCYC.

The volunteers were there handing out ‘how-to-vote’ cards and despite the differences in their political beliefs they were getting along well.
“We’re one big, happy family,” Fran Pietroboni said. “It doesn’t matter who you’re handing out for. You’ve got to support what you believe in.”
Greens supporter Veronica Collins said she enjoyed the company and didn’t feel out of place.
“Everyone’s friendly, we talk about things and who’s who in the zoo,” she said.
Whether they were new to the job like Ms Collins or veterans like Mrs Pietroboni, every volunteer was there because they believed in a cause.
“I do it because I believe in the party,” Labor volunteer George Youssef said.
Mature party candidate Trevor O’Brien said he was out trying to get some support.
“People stop and talk to us and give us feedback, which is good,” he said.
