But the side showed once again – when given the opportunity – they are a side to be reckoned with.
With their mid-week game against Yoogali SC postponed until this Tuesday, it gave the side a chance to rest their legs before Sunday’s clash with a visiting Leeton United.
Hanwood got the early breakthrough after they were awarded a penalty. Brad Clark made it look easy as Hanwood went into the break 1-0 up.
Danny Johnson has split his time this season between striker and keeper, but made his time up front count on Sunday.
He scored a second half goal that clinched the 2-0 victory for Hanwood.
Hanwood coach Brian Bertolin said his side “never really looked like we were going to lose.”
“Our back-line played terrifically,” he said.
“I don’t think out keeper touched the ball in the second half.”
He said it had been a bit hard to stay focused with the wet weather about.
“It’s been a bit of an odd year with the call-offs,” he said. “I think everyone’s finding it a little hard.”
Hanwood and YSC will go head-to-head this Tuesday at Hanwood Oval in the sides’ catch-up game and will kick off at 6.30pm.
