An outdoor amphitheatre honouring Miss Scott, who was a drama and English teacher at LHS, was formally opened on Tuesday afternoon. 

Members of Miss Scott’s family, including her parents Robert and Merrilyn attended, along with the entire student body, staff and community representatives. 

Mrs Scott described the day as one of many emotions while at the same time paying tribute to her “professional, comedian, organised, kind and fair” daughter. 

“It is hard to believe we will never see our beautiful girl again,” she said. 

“We will all continue to miss her every day and there is so much to miss. 

“She has left the stage and, not matter how much we will a final bow, it is over. 

“In a terrible twist, Stephanie’s happy, worthwhile and fulfilling life has become a terrible tragedy. 

“Now it is up to us to write our own ending and to wonder what might have been. 

“It occurred to me the other day when the clouds parted briefly to allow the sun through, that the sun is always shining above the clouds. We just have to hold on and be strong and eventually the sun must come out again.”

The new structure is an impressive one and will allow students and staff to create and learn, while remembering Miss Scott at the same time. 

Yellow pillars, Miss Scott’s favourite colour, hold the amphitheatre “together” at four points, with a stage and raised seating ensuring a good show will always be seen. 

The idea behind the amphitheatre was to create a tangible reminder and tribute to Miss Scott, who was an English and drama teacher at the school. The back of the stage is adorned with the words “fly high Steph”. 

“Stephanie loved this school and couldn’t wait for the holidays to be over to see her students again,” Mrs Scott said. 

“She is with you all every day, willing you to succeed in all areas of your lives. Use this amphitheatre to remember Stephanie, to reflect, to laugh, to recall quotes and her wise advice, and to feel her love.”
