This week YSC will seek redemption against the side pushing for a top two spot.
After their mid-week game against Hanwood FC was postponed, YSC haven’t played a first grade game since May 29.
Wests on the other hand are coming off a successful – if not scrappy – victory over Yoogali FC.
Not all YSC players have been off the park for nearly a month though.
Some laced up the boots for their reserve side last weekend.
“We couldn't avoid it,” YSC coach Luke Santolin said.
“I needed them to play minutes.”
Despite Wests’ 1-0 victory over the ladder-leaders in round five, Wests coach Sharif Moursi said it would have no impact on this game.
“It means absolutely nothing,” he said. “Especially against a quality side like YSC.”
Moursi says his side will rise to the occasion, in a match that, if they win, can see them leap Hanwood FC in the standings.
“We play our best against top quality sides,” he said.
“We’re halfway through the season and we still haven’t really hit form yet.
“We’ve got three really tough teams in the next three weeks so it will be a big measuring stick to where we are in the season and how we’re shaping up for finals.”
By now, teams will be used to playing in the wet weather.
Santolin said it would be the same for both sides.
“We just have to deal with it,” he said.
“We won’t ever use it as an excuse.
“Against Leeton the sloppy pitch worked for us.”
He said his side had kept up a training regime over the month-long break from playing.
“We have trained, but we’ve been in and out of the gym,” he said.
“We’ve been trying to stay as fit and as sharp as possible.”
Moursi said the condition of the ground wouldn’t affect Wests’ game plan.
“We like the ball on the ground,” he said.
“We’ll stick to the way we play though.”
Rain or shine, Moursi expected a thrilling match.
“This week I’ll actually have all my players back,” he said.
“Our games against YSC are usually competitive and hopefully this one will be the same.”
The match will be played at Coro Club Oval on Sunday.
The match is set to kick off at 3pm.
