A GRIFFITH man has been refused bail after allegedly kidnapping and subjecting a former girlfriend to a night of terror last weekend.
Police claim the 25-year-old man was at a local residence with his former partner and others on the night of October 6 when he refused to let her leave.
He then allegedly forced her into his car, holding her captive for close to seven hours and assaulting her numerous times.
She fled from the vehicle at a Griffith service station at about 2am when the accused was buying cigarettes.
The victim reported the incident to Narrandera Police on Thursday with the support of family and friends.
She suffered serious cuts and bruising to her face during the ordeal.
The accused was arrested by Griffith detectives at his home on Friday and charged with detain for advantage, assault
occasioning actual bodily harm and intimidation.
He was refused bail by police and again refused bail in an out of sessions sitting of Griffith Court on Saturday morning.
He will face Deniliquin Local Court this morning via audio visual link.
Griffith Police crime manager Detective Inspector Paul Smith said it was critical local victims of domestic violence report incidents to police.
"Domestic violence is a serious offence in our communities and often goes unreported," Det Inp Smith said.
"We are committed to targeting domestic violence as a serious crime and have support services available to assist victims.
"I strongly urge victims to reports incidents of domestic violence and have faith in their local police that these matters will be investigated and appropriate actions taken."
He said the Griffith local area command had one of the highest success rates in the state for convicting domestic violence offenders.
