The welcome rain produced a heavy track with slippery, challenging sections.
Most runners posted slightly slower times, but quite a few “mudlarks” improved.
In the long course, Alan Jones enjoyed the wet track to post his fastest time in this competition.
Second was Archie Brown followed by Peter Stockwell – both posted PBs.
Steven Bourke flew in closely behind to capture fourth position.
John Dodd followed gleefully in fifth, beating off his long-time nemesis John Johns by only two seconds.
Brian Bellicanta enjoyed his run as always, coming in seventh, just holding off Matthew Ross and Roy Binks.
Nicole Restagno and Rodney Savage fought to the end to tie for 10th position.
Restagno was the fastest female in a time of 29.29 and Aiden Fattore the fastest male in 24.26.
In the short course, Harry Morshead improved on his great effort last week to grab the win from Lachlan O’Grady, who relished the conditions, improving on his previous run by over a minute.
Isabella Cavallaro was third, just edging out newcomer Rodney Armanini. In fifth position, Breanna Restagno matched her mother’s performance with a PB and claimed the title of fastest female in a time of 16.54.
Jack Mingay followed one second behind and was the fastest male in a time of 16.10.
Sergio Codognotto and Cooper Goullet put in a big finish to tie in seventh position. Ella Savage was ninth and Christian Cavallaro rounded off the 10.
With just two runs left to go in the competition, Nicole Restagno leads the long course by five points over a determined and consistently improving Matthew Ross.
Christian Cavallaro leads the short course by a more comfortable 13 points, but may have to work hard to fend off a big threat from Breanna Restagno.
The joggers meet every Saturday at the water tower on the hill opposite Pioneer Park at 4.30pm. Please arrive early to register. For more comprehensive news, check out the feral website www.griffithferals.org.au.
