The words of one Griffith man who is urging residents to make a contribution towards Griffith’s centenary sculptures. 

“I just think this is a great opportunity for the community there is a need for money to landscape the park and set the sculptures up and it’s not up to council to do this, it’s up to us, (people can make a donation to the tourist information centre) and it doesn’t matter how much they make just as long as we all get behind it,” Mr Connor said.

“The sculptures are beautiful and when they are all in place and the lights are shining it’s going to be a beautiful park, somewhere you can take your friends.

“This is a present to the town and people of Griffith, don’t leave it to someone else – you be a part of it so that when you take your friends there you can say we did this, we the people of Griffith.

“We all need to have some pride in our city, it has been good to most people and it’s been good to me - I was never out of work, could always get a job.

“I think we should all back Noel Hicks and Alan Smith for what they are doing and what they have done for this city.”

Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said he was delighted to acknowledge the centenary sculpture project as being the result of the generous nature of local businesses, organisations and families who have all put in to fund the project. He said many people continued to make cash donations to go towards landscaping, signage and lighting of the sculpture’s new home in IOOF Park. 

“The sculptures are truly a gift to the city of Griffith from the people of Griffith,” Cr Dal Broi said.

“The largest public art project Griffith has undertaken, the sculptures have been achieved through cash donations and in kind support.. This support ranges from the crane operator, to the caterers to the cafes in town to the electrician to the volunteers – many people have helped in some capacity. This project and the response from the public, has really highlighted that we live in a fabulous city with a wonderful community.”
