STAFF at Griffith Base Hospital consider themselves lucky after a donation from the Pioneer’s Trust fund allowed them to purchase a new internal probe and disinfection unit that will help them eliminate the potential for human error.

Radiology manager Kathleen Cook said the machine would provide staff with the peace of mind that they were treating all patients in the safest manner possible.

“The machine is electronic and disinfects the internal probe, these days infections can be easily transferred, for example the Zika virus, this is one method that can eliminate the risk of that being contracted,” she said.
“It’s automated so it provides a consistent method and produces accurate patient histories that are saved.
“When you consider the number of patients who will benefit, it’s money well spent.”
Pioneer’s Trust Secretary Morris Massarotto said they were happy to make the donation.
“It’s important to invest in essential community services for the people of Griffith and surrounding communities,” he said.
During the Pioneer’s Trust fund’s life span almost $800,000 had been donated to the hospital.
