Following the international success of his autobiography Mao’s Last Dancer Li Cunxin wrote The Peasant Prince, a children’s picture book based on his memoirs.
The book has since been adapted into a children’s play by Monkey Baa Creative Directors Eva Di Casare, Sandra Eldridge and Tim McGarry who worked closely with the author to bring the story to the stage.
Mr Cunxin said he hoped children watching the show would be inspired.
“I hope that my story will not only motivate the children to achieve their dreams, but also will make them realise just how lucky and privileged they are living in today’s wonderful world full of opportunities,” he said.
