Schools from all around the region came to Griffith to compete for the Giants Cup in both boys’ and girls’ under 15s competitions.
AFL NSW/ACT MIA coordinator Che Jenkins said the numbers of girls playing AFL were encouraging.
“With more pathways for girls into AFL with the upcoming women’s competition, it’s really starting to reflect on the ground,” Jenkins said.
“The girls skill levels are really starting to improve. It’s good to see girls including themselves in the school footy.”
St Francis de Sales Regional College was dominant, taking out both boys and girls competitions on the day.
In the boys, St Francis beat Marian Catholic College in the final whilst in the girls St Francis beat Wade High School.
The boys move onto the next round, played in Wagga on August 9, whilst the girls will play on August 10 in Sydney.
