A TRUCK driver escaped serious injury when his fully laden rig rolled over on a dangerous stretch of road near Whitton on Wednesday.
The 61-year-old Leeton truckie was heading east on North Kooba Settlers Road just before 11.30am when the B-double, owned by Finley company McNaught's Transport, toppled over on a bend.
The truck spilled its entire payload of rice onto the road, forcing it to be closed in both directions for more than six hours.
The vehicle, which was only a month old, was written off in the accident.
The driver was taken to Griffith Base Hospital by ambulance with minor neck injuries.
Griffith Police highway patrol sergeant Steve Pidgeon said the driver would be issued an infringement notice for the accident.
"He was pretty lucky not to be injured more seriously," Sergeant Pidgeon said.
"There will be a lot more heavy vehicle movements in the area heading into summer and it's an opportune time to tell all road users to exercise caution on the roads."
