Griffith midwife Jill Graham says no.
Thursday is International Day of the Midwife, which recognises those who do a job Ms Graham describes as being far from normal.
“There are so many different stages along the way for a woman who is pregnant – it’s just never boring,” she said.
Ms Graham said while being a part of the magic moment when a child is born was a great experiencem she always felt more for the family.
“I just love looking at the family and seeing their excitement and surprise and relief,” she said.
“They’re so excited to meet their baby.”
With many an urban legend existing about the horror of giving birth, Ms Graham said they were far outweighed by the positive stories she had seen.
“Everyone hears the bad stories, but there is so much good that happens.” Besides, she guarantees all midwives work in a cone of silence.
“We have a saying here, ‘whatever happens in a labour ward stays in a labour ward’ and to be honest you don’t really remember it anyway,” she said.
Ms Graham described her job as being a privilege however, she said it could be devastating when things went wrong.
“It’s terrible, people think I am crying for me but I'm crying for the family. It never gets easier to see.
“But we wouldn't be here if we didn't love what we did and you do often really realise how important it is.
“People come up to you in the street and it’s a nice feeling to have been such a big part of their lives and to see them with a healthy child, they especially remember you if you have been with them the entire way.”
Ms Graham said the staff at Griffith Base Hospital did their best to provide continuity of care to all mothers.
“When you feel comfortable with someone and they’re there with you the whole way it’s so much more comfortable,” she said. “We do the best we can with the what we have and that’s what we try to achieve, but sometimes it’s not possible.”
