A little mesh and a galvanised gate no taller than your knee was once all that stood at the front of the Yenda cemetery.

Now, with two solid brick pillars and a stunning, tall gate in between, the beautification of the cemetery has taken form.
“The reasoning behind it probably a lot to do with the aesthetics of the cemetery, it didn't really stand out as the facility that you assume is there,” council’s parks manager Peter Craig said.
“It was more or less a farm gate before so at the Yenda Progress Association the idea was floated and it was built in-house.”
Mr Craig said that, unfortunately, the gate’s construction had come at the right time.
“Unfortunately we've had the passing of some notable members of the community and with that you get a lot of people through here,” he said.
“Then you do get the feedback and appreciation of the work that's been completed out here, which is not always the case.
“To have a structure like this really lightens and brightens up to what is a very emotionally sensitive area for the community.”
Not all visitors are welcome as Mr Craig cheekily said.
“We've had some instances of wildlife coming into the cemetery,” he said.
“With this we'll definitely restrict that no end.
“The construction of the fence right around the cemetery will also impact that.”
The Yenda Progress Association wished to thank the following organisations, companies and individuals for the hard work, time and effort put into making this a reality.
Area Brick works – Terry Jones
Armando Armani & George Depaoli for brick laying.
George Santalucia & Louie Forner for building extension panels.
Ronny Santalucia for design work on the gates. Alan Wakely for helping out.
Griffith City Council for supply of and building and installation of the gates.
Yenda Progress Association Committee members for their hard work.
In particular to Barbara Jefferies for her work fund raising.
