Anyone who thinks it’s not a major issue in Griffith only need read our front page story.
Drug counsellor Sid Barone has revealed young people are trading sexual favours to fuel their addiction to ice.
This is extremely disturbing.
It’s clear these people are desperate and need help.
Mr Barone said the issue was just getting worse, with the drug easy to access and the price dropping to about $50 a point.
Griffith was overlooked for a treatment facility by the state government and now it has been overlooked by the Country Women’s Association for funding.
Obviously the CWA selected the areas it believes need help the most.
But the state government needs to step in and do something in the Riverina.
Mr Barone said alcohol still remained the biggest issue, but abuse of ice was on the rise.
The drug ruins lives.
Mr Barone believes the issue will get worse unless something is done.
He has suggested a treatment clinic.
Something needs to be done.
Otherwise opportunistic crime in the city will continue to rise and addicts will find themselves in a vicious cycle of abusing the drug and turning to crime to fund their addication.
