THE 2012 Griffith Show has been declared “one of the best in years” with bumper crowds and brilliant weather making the weekend one to remember.
Thousands of patrons poured into the Griffith Showgrounds over the two days, soaking up the sun and enjoying all the attractions, rides and exhibits.
Griffith Show Society secretary Juley Jackson said it was great to see so many people come through the gates and support the yearly event.
“Our gate numbers were certainly up and overall it was one of the best shows we’ve had in a long time,” she said.
“There were a lot of happy people around and the kids had a wonderful time with the petting zoo and animal nursery – it was great to see so many happy people at the showgrounds.”
Ms Jackson said they had received plenty of entries in many of the exhibition categories and the number of submissions in the children’s categories was encouraging.
“There were a lot of interesting things to see in the exhibits and it was good to see those who had entered come in to see if they had won,” she said.
“It was also nice to see all the kids come in to see their work on display.”
While Sunday night was without a doubt the busiest time during the weekend, Ms Jackson said there was a steady stream of visitors for the entire two days.
“Sunday night was huge – I’ve been involved in the show for many years and even I was surprised with how many people were around,” she said.
“Monday morning was understandably a bit quiet but by about 11am it was pretty busy again.”
The various activities held throughout the show were also well-received, with the Showgirl competition, the talent quest and the pet dog show among the crowd favourites.
Ms Jackson said the success of this year’s show was promising for the future of the annual event and the society was already thinking of how to make it even better next year.
“We really appreciate the outstanding support from the locals and all the sponsors, without them the show wouldn’t go on,” she said.
“The show is a great family day out with plenty to entertain kids and adults alike and with the family tickets it’s a pretty cheap day out.”
