Shortly before midnight on Friday, police were called to a disturbance in Pine Avenue, Leeton. A man was identified as having smashed a shop front window and he ran from the scene.
Inspector Tony Reneker from Griffith Local Area Command said a male officer was chasing the man when a 19-year-old Leeton woman allegedly tripped the officer over and then punched him in the head.
“She was placed under arrested and is alleged to have struggled violently with arresting police,” Inspector Reneker said.
“She has been charged with assault police and resisting police and will appear in Leeton Local Court on February 19.
“The male officer suffered cuts and abrasions to his knees and arms.”
On Saturday night police at West Wyalong stopped a car on the Newell Highway and searched it. Police have alleged a small amount of a prohibited drug was found in the car.
A 16-year-old West Wyalong girl, who was a passenger in the back of the car, is alleged to have become aggressive and scratched the face of a male officer and then kicked and punched two other female officers.
“She was also arrested by police and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act,” Inspector Reneker said.
“The male officer suffered scratch marks across his face.”
Shortly after, police were called to a disturbance outside a licensed club in West Wyalong.
“A number of women were involved in a verbal altercation and as a result, two women from West Wyalong, aged 25 and 26, were issued with criminal infringement notices for offensive language and offensive conduct,” Inspector Reneker said.
“Police then observed a 31-year-old West Wyalong woman urinating in a public place and she too was issued a criminal infringement notice for offensive conduct.”
Inspector Reneker said this type of anti-social behaviour would not be tolerated by police.
“Anybody who chooses to behave in this manner can expect that there will be consequences for their actions,” he said.
