Since April last year, the two cricketing buffs have been hunting down every O’Farrell Cup scorecard and compiling it into a definitive guide.
The book – titled The O'Farrell Cup: The quest for the holy grail of Riverina cricket – documents every game from 1925 through to the end of last season.
Scascighini said hunting down match results was often tedious and time-consuming work.
“It’s been a real challenge,” Scascighini said of the process.
“We did it between us in two halves.
“I did everything from 1925 through to 1954 by trolling through the trove website
“Brian did from 1955 to last season. He went down to The Daily Advertiser archives and trolled through them.”
Last Thursday, Scascighini had the first look of the finished product.
Scascighini was pleased with the finished product.
He said the hard work had been worth it and he would be ordering more prints as soon as possible.
It’s (O’Farrell Cup) something I always had an interested in but no one kept record and I thought this was a definitely something that needed to be assessed
- John Scascighini
“There won’t be any changes to the book, I’ll be ringing them (publishers) straight away (to order more books),” Scascighini said.
“They should be able to print them immediately but how long it takes them I don’t know.
“I’m hoping we will have them by the end of February.”
Scascighini and Lawrence both have a strong connection to the O’Farrell Cup having fought for the Cup in their playing days.
The creation of the book was just as much for past players to reminisce as it was for youngsters looking to brush up on their history.
“It’s (O’Farrell Cup) something I always had an interest in but no one kept record and I thought this was a definitely something that needed to be assessed,” Scascighini said.
“The idea was to document every game, which we’ve done.”
The book contains several lists ranging from top scores to best bowling figures. Email Scascighini on scas@aapt.net.au to order a copy.
