The Baggie Blues match saw Leeton bat first and thanks to former NSW player Corey Richards, they got off to the perfect start.
Griffith’s Alex Flood was thrown the ball in the opening over and decided to test out Richards with a short ball straight away. This didn’t end well.
It was crushed over square leg for six.
In contrast Brett Hazelman kept things tight at one end.
The inclusion of Haydn Pascoe into the attack brought about the first wicket of the game when he clean bowled Richards for 35.
Brent Lawrence (11) then combined with opener Mitch Hardie (39) as they continued to tick over the score. This was until Claire Murray was brought into the attack.
She first picked up Lawrence caught behind before she got Hardie to sky out.
The spin of Liam Greenaway and Kate Blackwell slowed things down a bit but Leeton were still on track for a big total.
In the search for quick runs at the end of the innings, Leeton lost four quick wickets which included that of former NSW player Keving Geyer (21) and Sydney Sixers recruit Jodie Hicks (0).
Leeton finished 7-126 despite a lot of players (Griffith and Leeton) claiming poor vision due to the pink ball.
In the Griffith innings it was the Blackwell sisters – Kate and Alex – who opened the batting.
After getting off to a sluggish start they quickly found their rhythm and upped the run rate.
They brought up their 50 run partnership, but soon after, Kate retired herself on 30.
This brought Logan Matheson to the crease but he was bowled first ball by Hicks.
With some form under his belt, Brendan Hicken (20) strode to the crease.
He wouldn’t have felt great to start though as a mix-up between he and Alex saw the Blackwell sister run out for 19.
Pascoe (25) then combined with Hicken as they edged closer to the Leeton total.
It wasn’t to be however as Griffith finished their 20 overs at 7-107, 20 runs short of victory.
