The application is one of several large scale solar projects in the region which combined could make Griffith a leading renewable energy hub for NSW.
Located next to the Griffith substation, the Riverina Solar Project will diversify the region’s energy mix, create employment opportunities and generate electricity equivalent to powering approximately 12,000 homes.
According to Environmental Property Services, the development will sit alongside a similar project started by French firm Neoen.
The project had been shortlisted for federal funding under the Australian Renewable Energy Agency program. The proposed investment in the region was been welcomed by local and state governments.
Riverina Solar will be hosting community information sessions at Griffith Regional Theatre to provide information about the project and get feedback from the community.
Riverina Solar will be joined at these sessions by Solar Mad, which had installed more than 30,000 solar panels locally.
Kylie Walker, Regional Clean Energy Co-ordinator, will also be joining the sessions. Ms Walker will be able to provide information on clean energy initiatives including solar pumping, energy efficiency for business, community energy and clean energy for the Riverina.
The sessions will be held from 12pm to 3pm and 5pm to 8pm on Tuesday, February 16 and Thursday, February 18.
