This was on the back of concerns raised from descendants of the family late last year about the state of disrepair.
Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said the memorial had not been maintained as it should have.
“We recognised the memorial was in need of repair and identified this as part of the Griffith CBD Strategy,” he said.
A new drinking fountain is to be installed at the front of the memorial with another to be fitted at the rear to cater for those with a disability.
The brickwork will be cleaned and new tiles installed over the podium and step. Work is expected to be completed by the end of March 2016.
