Local council elections are expected to occur in September this year, yet mayor John Dal Broi had indicated general manager (GM) Brett Stonestreet would have his contract renewed for five years.
“It seems they’ve picked the GM for the next council,” Mr Snaidero said.
“Why not appoint him for 12 months to get through a transition period and let the next council make the call?”
Mr Snaidero pointed out Mr Stonestreet was set to earn about $1.25 million in the five-year period based on his current reported salary.
“If there are problems between the next council and the general manager, how much will it cost the community?” Mr Snaidero asked.
“They should be able to make their own decision.”
