It’s sad to hear La Festa won’t be around this year. Last year’s event was an absolute blast, from Joe Camilleri wailing on his sax to Carly and Dane selling their wine for My Name Is Chris. Chilli-eaters were almost hospitalised, punters were mostly well-behaved, all-in-all a great day out.

It looked like Banna Avenue did a roaring trade too. I remember thinking it looked more like Sydney than Griffith. And after Joe tooted his last note, the line-up outside The Area Hotel almost stretched to top block.
Getting involved in committees, or bands, or other groups can be quite taxing. I know from personal experience. I’ve played with a couple of different outfits throughout the years and it can be hard to stay committed when you’re outside in the rain on a cold winter night. If you wait around long enough though, you soon remember why you do it.
Far be it for me to take a swipe at the La Festa committee, I know what it’s like to burn out too. Two years on from my last gig and it’s still hard to think about doing it all over again. I truly hope they can take this year off and come back fresh and better than ever in 2017.
If everyone did their part to pitch in, the core organisers wouldn’t get so run down. I know who they are, there’s a handful of people who seem to be involved in everything.
If you love something, nurture it and help out when you can. Sometimes it sucks, but ultimately it’s worth it.
