Four months into the season, Kissick holds a three-win lead in the SDRA jockey’s premiership.
He sits on 14 wins, three clear of promising Wagga apprentice Nick Heywood and Goulburn-based rider Richard Bensley.
Kissick shared last season’s premiership in a three-way tie with Nick Souquet and Simon Miller.
He was surprised to find himself in front a third of the way through the current year.
“I’ve ridden most of my winners this season in the Canberra region so I didn’t think I would be leading the SDRA,” Kissick said.
Kissick knows there’s still a long way to go in the season.
He expects Heywood, his mate, to challenge strongly for the premiership.
“I think Nick is a real hope of winning the premiership this year,”Kissick said.
“If I don’t (win), I hope he (Heywood) does.”
