THE first flush of warm spring weather has hit the region, with the mercury tipped to nudge the magical 30 degree mark this week.
Locals began dragging out the cozzies and slapping on the sunscreen late last week as the temperature hit a top of 28 degrees on Thursday and a comfortable 23 degrees on Saturday and Sunday.
And while today's top should only reach a modest 18 degrees, forecasters are predicting a balmy 29 degree peak in Griffith this Thursday the hottest day in more than five months.
The weekend's warmer temperatures saw locals flock to City Park, the aquatic centre and Lake Wyangan to soak up the conditions.
Wagga Bureau of Meteorology technical officer Robbie Lennard said a combination of low cloud cover and warmer winds had triggered the hot spell.
"It has been generally clear the last few days and the winds are bringing down a warmer air mass from Queensland ahead of a front out to the west," Mr Lennard said.
"Those sort of conditions can combine to make the days a bit warmer."
He said with the spring equinox taking place yesterday, the days would continue to get longer and warmer.
Tomorrow is tipped to hit a top of 20 degrees before a 26 degree top on Wednesday and 29 degrees on Thursday.
