Mansell claimed the extraordinary figures of 7-64 off 18 overs in the first innings of Saturday’s game.
Remarkably, those weren’t Mansell’s best figures in first grade. Those came when he took 7-27 while playing for Exies.
It was Exies who looked the goods early in the round eight clash as they pushed the score past 50 in the ninth over. Mansell then struck to claim the wickets of Mark Tucker (44) and Cameron Arnold (5) to leave Exies 3-79 after 19 overs.
Tyler Stiller and Duane Ashcroft then steadied the ship as they took it to the rest of the Coro bowlers. Only Mansell and Angus Kennedy kept their economy rates under five as the Exies pair looked to tee off with a declaration looming.
Once Mansell got rid of Stiller (55) and Ashcroft (55), the Exies scalps continued to fall at a steady rate.
Teei Piawi chipped in with a couple of wickets at the end before Exies captain Tucker declared at 9-214 after 42 overs.
Having just over 40 overs to chase down the target, Coro knew they had to be at their best with the bat and Rob Rand got things off to a flyer.
He and Jonathon Morris brought up their 50-run partnership in the 10th over before Morris (12) was dismissed.
Captain Haydn Pascoe (28) then came to the crease and kept the scoreboard ticking over before he and Rand (65) fell in quick succession.
Coro were 4-196 and looked to have the game under control before Roger Andreatta and Justin Winkler struck.
Wickets fell quickly as Coro were reduced to a precarious 9-210.
With one ball left in the innings Coro needed two runs for victory. Piawi became the hero when he knocked his shot to the leg side for the win.
Pascoe was extremely pleased with the performance of Mansell.
“For him to do what he did on a deck that was giving the bowlers nothing was amazing,” he said.
“I don’t think it made a huge difference that it was against his old club. (It was) just a great performance.”
