Diggers take on a rejuvenated Hanwood side in a timed match at Exies No.1 on Saturday in the Griffith District Cricket Association first grade competition.
Smith said his side thought they had the game in the bag against Yenda but a lack of concentration brought their demise.
“I think the team probably expected to win,” Smith said.
“Especially when the total required was 125 odd and in the past few weeks we have chased totals pretty easily.
“There wasn't much dedication from the batters and I’ve talked to them about it.
“They know they need to put their head down and get a start.”
Smith said brilliant performances from a few select batsmen had given his side a sense of security.
“You could sort of see this happening. One or two guys have been getting runs but not four or five blokes,” Smith said.
“It was the first game of the season someone didn't put on a 50 or a 70.
“We need more guys to get 20s or 30s when there’s not that big score in an innings.”
Smith is desperate to turn last week’s performance around.
He said that consecutive losses had the potential to unhinge Diggers season.
“You don’t want to lose two games in a row,” Smith said.
“If we can concentrate on our own game – get our batting right and have our batsmen stay out there – we’re on our way to winning most games.”
Hanwood head into the match after winning it’s second match of the year against Exies last week.
It was Hanwood’s first win since round two, ending a four game losing streak.
Consistency is the key for Hanwood.
The difference between Hanwood’s best and worst performances has been too large.
Last time the two team’s met Diggers were victorious.
It wasn’t an easy win though.
Hanwood reduced Diggers to eight down before they got the runs required.
Pat Whittard steered the Diggers ship home with 58 in that match. The match will commence at 1pm.
