Head of the 2016 Census program, Duncan Young, said it was a great opportunity to play a key role in Australia’s largest peace-time logistical exercise and make an important contribution to the community.
“The census provides an important statistical snapshot of our nation,” Mr Young said.
“For example, the 2011 Census showed that 5,869 families live in Griffith, while 1,221 live in Narrandera. Collectively there are 11,476 private dwellings in both towns.
“This information supports future funding decisions for services and infrastructure, including housing, transport, education, industry, hospitals, and the environment.
“As a district manager, you will help make sure everyone is included in the census so the ABS accurately captures this information again in 2016.
“You will also be part of one of the biggest online events in Australia, with 65 per cent of Australian households expected to complete the Census online next year,” he said.
2016 census field staff will need to be tech-savvy and are expected to use their own computer, smartphone or tablet. To view the applicant information kits and to apply online, visit www.abs.gov.au/careers.
