IF YOU’RE a spectacular sewer, a phenomenal photographer, a clever crafter or a green-thumbed gardener, then it’s time to show off your skills.
The Griffith Show Society is calling for all talented locals to get their exhibits ready for the 92nd annual show, set down for September 30 and October 1.
With exhibits including cooking, photography, craft and horticulture, show secretary Juley Jackson said there was a category for everyone.
“We’re really hoping to get as many entries as possible so we’re encouraging all the crafty ladies and talented locals to enter their items,” she said. “There’s also a lot of fun sections for the kids, with the scarecrow competition, the umbrella decorating competition, photography competition and wheelbarrow competition.”
Entries for the exhibits will be taken next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but people will need to submit their items later in the week.
Ms Jackson said it also paid to get in early for tickets to the show, with special discounts for early birds.
“If you buy your ticket beforehand it’s $45 for a family for two days. At the gate it’s $15 per adult and $7 per child for just one day, so it pays to get in early,” she said.
Ms Jackson said both the Sunday and the Monday were jam-packed with exciting events and there would be plenty to do and see at this year’s show.
“We’ve got the demolition derby on Sunday night, followed by the fireworks,” she said. “There’s a vintage tractor pull, the animal nursery, the poultry exhibits on Sunday, the pet dog show, the showgirl competition, the mini motorbikes, the horse events plus all the rides, sideshows and show bags.”
A new event this year is the farmer’s challenge and Ms Jackson said it should be a lot of fun with farmers asked to sprint while carrying eggs, carry hay bales and push their wives in wheelbarrows.
