They are the true hidden treasures who work tirelessly behind the scenes for the benefit of all.
- Meredith Whittaker
The Internal Life Membership is awarded to members who have volunteered for 15 years or more as a continuous financial member and not in an executive position.
The recipients were Barbara Harris, Sheila Crump, Mary Del Guzzo and Dot Reddacliff.
All the ladies have fulfilled their duties of selling raffle tickets on a regular basis and helping with the street stall along with a range of other tasks.
Ms Harris is one of the longest serving members of the auxiliary.
She joined the UHA in 1973 and has volunteered for 47 years.
Ms Crump joined the UHA in 1999 and has volunteered for 16 years.
She also served as vice-president for three years in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Ms Del Guzzo joined the hospital auxiliary in 2000 and sold raffle tickets for 15 years.
She has been a driving force in the organisation of the Springtime Luncheon over the years.
Ms Reddacliff joined the UHA in 2000 and has sold raffle tickets for 15 years.
Along with the Internal Life Members, nine members were awarded 10, 30 and 40 year service bars.
Diane Burdett, Marj Careri, Carmel Henderson, Dot O’Callagan, Judith Saddler and Vera Sergi were awarded 10 year service bars.
Ada Snaidero was awarded a 30 year service bar and Gillian Jackson and Ethel Booth both received 40 year service bars.
Ada Snaidero will also become a state life member in October when the annual conference for NSW is held in Wagga.
Only nine of these memberships are given out each year state wide.
UHA Griffith Branch President Heather Eagleton said she was proud of the work past and present members have done over the years.
“We have approximately 120 members in the auxiliary and from records available since 1931, the team has contributed over $1,325,521 to the local hospital,” she said.
“The UHA run a kiosk on a voluntary basis five hours a day, seven days a week for the benefit of patients, staff and the community.”
Major fund-raisers for the UHA are the annual spring luncheon, Easter street stall and Christmas stocking raffle.
Funds are raised at the events to provide money for equipment to be used by the patients, doctors and staff at the hospital.
Acting General Manager at Griffith Base Hospital Meredith Whittaker said the work the volunteers do for the hospital is second to none.
“They are the true hidden treasures who work tirelessly behind the scenes for the benefit of all,” Ms Whittaker said.
“We are so grateful to them for supporting our facility.”
