Now the trick is to make everybody else see it as well.
The Blacks have that chance on Saturday when they travel to Leeton to play Wagga Waratahs in the third grade preliminary final.
Lawrence admitted earlier in the year that the Blacks had performed better than he thought they would this campaign, but that doesn’t mean he will be content bowing out in the second-last week of the season.
“It would be very disappointing for us,” Lawrence said.
“The boys can do it (win). I know they can and I have full confidence in them.
“If we stick to our guns and game plan, we’ll go all the way.”
Waratahs beat the Blacks 20-19 in an extra-time thriller in the first week of the finals a fortnight ago, but Lawrence doesn’t think his team has to adjust much to reverse the result.
He said the Blacks took plenty of confidence from their 32-7 demolition of Ag College last weekend in Wagga.
“If we can do what we did against Aggies, where the forwards set up a great platform and the backs finished off, we should come away with a win,” he said.
“Just ball security and body height are the two things we’ve been working on.
“If we fix that, we should do well.”
Off the field, Lawrence hopes plenty of Blacks supporters make the trek to Leeton to support the side.
He said their presence could make a difference in what should be a tough encounter.
“Waratahs will have three grades over there, so they’ll have a fair bit of support,” he said.
“Leeton’s not that far away, so we’re hoping to get all the wives and girlfriends and the families over there.
“If we can get a fair bit of support, that would be brilliant.”
Kick-off is at noon.
