The minor premiers had Daniel Johnson to thank after he scored both goals for his side at Hanwood Oval.
The golden boot winner scored the first of his goals around the 10-minute mark before doubling up 20 minutes later.
Hanwood FC had the chance to seal the win when they were awarded a penalty shot in the second half.
The first attempt found the back of the net, but a Hanwood FC player was deemed to have encroached the penalty box early.
The penalty was retaken, but this time Yoogali SC goalkeeper Michael Depoali saved the shot.
Hanwood FC co-coach Anthony Agresta said there was plenty of encouraging signs to take from the match.
“Our intensity (was good). From the word go we pushed hard. The boys knocked the ball around well and we kept our shape,” Agresta said when asked what pleased him most about the game.
He added he was happy to get a week off heading into the grand final.
“It’s always good to have the week off,” he said.
“We have a few niggles and stuff like that.
“Hopefully we can get rid of them and work hard for the next two weeks.”
Yoogali SC take on West Griffith SC this week to see who will face Hanwood FC in the decider.
