Griffith hockey players had plenty to celebrate after earning third at the Women’s Masters Hockey Field Championships in Bathurst.

Competing against seven sides in division two of the over 40 age group, Griffith finished the tournament with three wins, three losses and a draw.
Griffith made a successful start to their campaign against New England after Fiona Shields scored the only goal of the game with a diving effort late in the first half. Anna Stoll was the other standout.
In their second match, Griffith encountered an in-form Tumut and went down 2-1. Carmel Bodger found the net after she was set up by Karren Johnston.
Griffith had better luck in their next match, beating Sydney North West after converting two short corners in the second half.
Game four against Sydney South West finished in a 2-0 defeat before Griffith fought out a nil-all draw against Wagga.
Griffith returned to the winner’s circle against Orange, with Shields and Bodger both making the scoresheet.
In the final match of the tournament, Griffith came up against top side Dubbo.
A rough-and-tumble game was expected, but the clash was played in the right spirit, with Dubbo prevailing 1-0 after scoring in the opening minutes. The speedy Sharon Lowe and goalkeeper Meagan McPhee both had good games for Griffith.
