There’s something quite special about the love a dog has for its owner. It’s a bond that begins when you first meet them and it continues until the last beat of their heart.

Sadly, some dogs don’t get to experience a loving home complete with belly rubs, scratches behind the ear and sneaky treats.
Sometimes a dog runs away from home, other times they get lost. And on some occasions, a Christmas or birthday present can no longer be cared for, and another puppy goes to the pound.
Whatever the reason behind their homelessness, stray dogs can cause problems for the community as well as be a risk to themselves.
I don’t envy the work of council rangers who have to pick up strays and take them in. These aren’t people who hate animals, in fact it’s usually the opposite. But there’s only so much they can do in their professional roles, and that’s where groups like Needy Paws step in.
Their work finding homes for these ‘unwanted’ animals has been truly remarkable, and I hope it doesn’t come to an end over this row that’s been brewing with council.
If Needy Paws can’t continue their work, it’s the animals who will ultimately suffer. And usually for no greater crime than being born.
Please, think carefully before getting a dog or cat, because they should have a home with you for the rest of their lives.
