Both teams are on equal points – sitting in sixth and seventh position – but GGGM sit higher on the ladder thanks to a superior for and against. 

Griffith Swans coach Brandon Mathews had a simple message to his squad, win or kiss finals footy goodbye

“They all are now if we want to play finals,” Mathews said when asked if this game was a must win.

“We are probably going to have to win all of them but certainly this week in regards to where they sit on the ladder and where we sit.”

The Swans head into the match on the back of the bye last week.

Mathews said the bye came at the right time after the Swans played a long string of games.

“It will probably help (the bye), we were having a few injury issues before the bye, we hope to get a few back this week,” Mathews said.

“We had about eight or nine games straight and everyone was starting feel the pinch a little bit.

“I think it will be beneficial to have had the rest.”

Prior to the bye, Griffith were beaten by Coolamon and Mathews said that loss came down to missed chances.

“We just didn't take our opportunities,” he said.

“We probably had enough of the ball early to put on scoreboard pressure.

“We’ve been working on that the last few weeks.

“It comes down to goal kicking, it was a bit of an issue early in the year but you know you won’t have a perfect season.

“You hope it doesn't affect you too much and cost you any games.”

The Swans’ run home is a tough one with Collingullie GP (fifth), Mangoplah CUE (first) and Wagga (second) to come after the GGGM match.

The GGGM and CGP matches will be of the utmost importance.

Wins in those two matches would not only give the Swans much needed competition points but also deny points from Griffith’s closest rivals still in the hunt for the finals.

Plenty could still happen between now and the start of the finals.

With just two wins between Griffith and top of the ladder, no ladder positions have been set in stone with seven teams vying for five positions.
